CV - LILY ASHROWAN

Lily Ashrowan (b. 1999) is an artist specialising in moving image, photography, writing and performance. She shifts between the syntax of movement and the choreography of language, to think through our contemporary relationship with our bodies situated in space, from the psychogeographical space of rural landscapes, to the real virtual space of the internet. Her work deals with themes of embodiment, memory, dance and desire and looks to find portals which point towards a more joyful future. Her research interests include new materialisms, affect theory and a politics of movement. She is based between the Scottish Borders and London and these disparate geographies inform her work.

Ashrowan also works as a freelance photographer and filmmaker and has previously done work for Fashion Designers Phoebe English and Crimson DM Lily, as well as Spoozic, an arts council funded project that brings contemporary music into unusual spaces. Her films have screened at festivals internationally.
